The Macmillan virtual MDT has had an update! We’ve been working hard to make our website quicker and easier for healthcare professionals to use. Check out the changes we’ve made:

  • Updated website
The vMDT website has been updated with a brand new welcome page, including guidance on what information you need to make a referral and the different user types. You can also now access the user guide and patient leaflet straight from the website.

  • Opened criteria
When the vMDT system was first launched, we would accept referrals that met one of the following 3 criteria:

  • Patient was previously treated for pelvic cancer.
  • Patient previously had a bone marrow transplant.
  • Patient was treated for cancer as a child or young adult.

We will now accept referrals for patients with ongoing or unresolved problems who received any treatment for any cancer, however long ago active treatment ended, as long as they are at least 6 months post-diagnosis.

  • Service open to primary care
The vMDT will accept referrals from primary care as well as secondary and tertiary healthcare professionals. Anybody with a GMC number, RCN number, etc. and access to the secure NHS N3 network is able to make a referral to the vMDT and receive advice and guidance for patients experiencing chronic symptoms following their cancer treatment.

  • System modifications
Following feedback from our users, we have introduced the Support User and the facility for referrers to add a Team Contributor to their referral. Here’s some information about our new user types:

    Support User
Non-healthcare professionals (i.e. Medical Secretary, Administrator, etc.) who can assist with inputting information into a referral, following instruction from the referring healthcare professional. Support Users are unable to submit a referral as this remains the sole responsibility of the referrer.

    Team Contributor
Healthcare professionals that are associated with the care of the referred patient can have access to join the case discussion with the referrer and allocated expert panel once the referral reaches the online forum stage. Team Contributors are unable to contribute to the completion of the referral form.
