Access expert, multi-disciplinary advice to help your patients with complex needs, resulting from cancer and its treatments.
Around 625,000 people experience long term consequences following their cancer treatment. Some of these are complex and highly debilitating and my benefit from expert advice from a range of specialities that you may not have access to at a local level.
Macmillan, in partnership with The Christie, is testing the Macmillan Virtual Multi-Disciplinary team (vMDT) platform to facilitate access to expert advice for your patients' complex or severe chronic symptoms following cancer treatment.
It's a secure, online forum providing quick and easy access to multi-specialist advice, such as opinions from cardiologists and gastroenterologists.
Referrals to the vMDT can come from anywhere in the UK and will receive a response within three weeks, helping shared decision making regarding future care.
You may select which advice to follow and maintain responsibility for your patient throughout. The aim is to improve the outcomes and quality of life for people experiencing complex issues.
Referral Criteria:
We will accept from UK-wide oncology teams for patients experiencing complex or severe chronic symptoms following cancer treatment:
- people treated for cancer in childhood through to young adulthood
- people who have undergone a bone marrow transplant
- people who have been treated for pelvic cancers by any treatment modality
We will also accept referrals from healthcare professionals seeking a second opinion or support for complex patients they have already treated if the referral criteria is met.
Please note that the vMDT is not suitable for people experiencing emergency problems or who need an immediate response.
